Candidate Refuses to Face Voters or Media; Holds Fundraiser Instead
Brighton, MI—Mike Bishop participated today in an open question forum with the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce. Melissa Gilbert skipped that same forum where she was invited and the Gilbert campaign made it very clear that Melissa Gilbert would only participate if audience members were not allowed to ask questions. Gilbert has been blasted by local media recently for refusing to take questions from media or appearing at public events.
“Melissa Gilbert wants her campaign to be like a bad Hollywood movie—completely scripted and absolutely predictable,” stated Stu Sandler, spokesperson for Mike Bishop for Congress. “I don’t blame Gilbert and her campaign for wanting to avoid questions, especially after watching Gilbert’s disastrous, unscripted defense of child rapist Roman Polanski on the View. Gilbert’s refusal to face real voters and the media is just another reason why voters are rejecting her Hollywood values.”
Mike Bishop’s participation in the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce forum included questions by the audience. Bishop has repeatedly appeared in forums across the district, including this same Greater Area Brighton Chamber of Commerce forum last year. Melissa Gilbert was invited to this year’s forum but after several inquiries by her campaign, it became clear Gilbert would only participate if she was allowed to address the group without taking questions. The Greater Area Brighton Chamber of Commerce regularly holds forums where audience members pose questions to their guests.
Bishop graduated from Rochester Adams High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the Michigan State University College of Law. Mike and his wife, Cristina, still live in Rochester and are raising their three children there.
