Congressman-elect Bishop Announces Committee Assignments, Key Staff Hires

LANSING, Mich. – Today, U.S. Rep.-elect Mike Bishop (MI-08) announced he will serve on the House Judiciary Committee and House Education and the Workforce Committee in the new 114th Congress.

“I am honored to serve the people of Michigan’s Eighth District on these diverse committees,” said Congressman-elect Bishop. “The House Judiciary Committee will allow us to get involved in a variety of important issues today, like trade and commerce, the growing tech industry and job creation in our district. I am also excited to address the ways we can improve our children’s education and help more Michiganders get the training they need to get back to work as a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee.”

In addition to his committee assignments, Congressman-elect Bishop also announced several staff hires in his district and Washington, D.C., offices:

Chief of Staff Allan Filip – Allan has worked with Congressman Mike Rogers since January 2013 as District Director and most recently Chief of Staff. Prior to joining the Rogers team, Allan served as Chief Development Officer at Work Skills Corporation in Brighton, Mich., Director of Field Operations at the Michigan Republican Party, and spent more than 10 years with International Paper in project management and sales positions. He currently lives in Hartland, Mich.

Legislative Director Kyle Kizzier – Kyle currently serves as Legislative Director for Congressman Mike Rogers. He was also the former Vice President at Navigators Global, a government relations and strategic communications firm in Washington, D.C. Kyle also has experience serving within the U.S. Department of Agriculture and on the re-election campaign of former President George W. Bush. He is a graduate of Michigan State University.

District Director Katherine Van Tiem – Katherine is the current District Director for Congressman Mike Rogers. Katherine managed Congressman-elect Bishop’s 2014 congressional campaign and Congressman Rogers’ 2012 re-election campaign. She is a 2005 graduate of Central Michigan University, and a 2008 graduate of The Thomas M. Cooley Law School. After earning her law degree, Katherine practiced law in Southeast Michigan until joining Congressman Rogers’ campaign team in 2012. She currently lives in Rochester, Mich.

Deputy District Director Stuart Pigler – Stuart joins the Bishop team after serving as district office manager for Congressman Rogers since 2001. During that time, Stuart took pride in helping the Congressman serve local veterans, coordinating more than 100 military medals ceremonies in the 8th District. Before joining Rogers, Stuart was a Legislative Assistant in the Michigan Senate. He is a graduate of Wayne State University.

Communications Director Kelli Ford – Kelli will join Congressman-elect Bishop’s office after two years as Michigan Republican Party press secretary under Chairman Bobby Schostak’s leadership during Republicans’ notable 2014 cycle. Previously, Kelli worked with the Michigan press corps on Pete Hoekstra’s 2012 U.S. Senate campaign and in her public relations work at Truscott Rossman and The Rossman Group in Lansing, Mich. She is a graduate of Michigan State University.

“We have a great team in place with a deep understanding of our district, so I look forward to hitting the ground running this January,” said Bishop. “The families of Michigan’s Eighth District deserve strong representation in Washington, and I know my team will help make that possible.”

Bishop won the November general election and will represent Michigan’s 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives when the new session convenes in January. He was also selected as the freshman member of the House Steering Committee and is the former Senate Majority Leader of Michigan.
