Bishop Releases Ad Highlighting Conservative Principles

Brighton, MI – Today, the Mike Bishop for Congress campaign released Bishop’s latest ad entitled “Conservative Leader Mike Bishop” highlighting Mike Bishop’s conservative principles and clearly points out the contrasting record of Bishop’s opponent, Tom McMillin.

The ad can be viewed here:

The ad notes on Bishop’s ranking as the most conservative Senator in 2010 as ranked by MIRS News Capsule; a feat never before achieved by the individual serving as Senate Majority Leader. It also denotes Bishop’s years of fighting the liberal agenda of Jennifer Granholm and his passion to fight for the repeal of Obamacare.

“Mike Bishop’s many years of service proves he was and is a conservative leader,” said Bishop’s Campaign Manager, Katherine Van Tiem. “Mike Bishop forced the Granholm Administration to accept all-cuts budgets while he was Senate Majority Leader and government spending actually went down during that time because of his conservative principles. Mike Bishop will take this same conservative leadership to Washington and fight for the repeal of Obamacare and to reduce a nearly $18 trillion dollar debt.”

The ad continues to highlight the troubling votes of Tom McMillin. In 2011, McMillin voted for HB 4361, a bill to increase taxes on retirees by $900 million through a new Pension Tax. McMillin further sided with the ACLU when he voted against HB 4118 in 2013 which was a bill in favor of drug-testing those receiving welfare benefits. And, McMillin astonishingly voted against SB 1253 in 2010; a law that requires background checks for workers in nursing homes.

Bishop Campaign Manager Katherine Van Tiem chided McMillin, “Tom McMillin’s votes to increase taxes, waste taxpayer dollars by allowing those on welfare to use drugs and not protect our most vulnerable seniors from those who may do them harm is just a snapshot of how we can’t trust Tom McMillin’s decision making. Tom has made a career out of voting against sensible reforms that would help Michigan families and seniors. McMillin has voted against Republican policies over 680 times since being elected to the Michigan Legislature. We can’t afford Tom McMillin’s judgment in Congress.”

Mike Bishop is endorsed by current 8th Congressional District U.S. Representative Mike Rogers. He is also endorsed by Michigan Right to Life, the Michigan Farm Bureau, the Police Officers Association of Michigan and over 100 local conservative leaders in the 8th District.

Mike Bishop is currently Chief Legal Officer for International Bancard Corporation and is also an Adjunct Professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Prior to his first election in 1998, Bishop was a private practice attorney, serving families, small businesses, and local governments.

Bishop lives in Rochester with his wife Cristina and their three children.
